The Wrap: December 2020
President's Report
Greetings Fellow RDU ALA Chapter Members,
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!! Who can believe are in the last month of 2020? What a long, strange trip this has been. With the holiday season upon us I think it’s the perfect time to reflect on all the wonderful things that have happened this year. We kicked off the first quarter with our biannual Education Conference and were then able to successfully pivot to a virtual world, in our offices and in our chapter due to the global pandemic that brought the world to a standstill. While this year has certainly been different, I believe it has actually brought us all closer together. We’ve been able to have wonderful virtual education sessions and also connect with fellow chapters through the power of technology. Soon we will be celebrating the holidays with our first ever virtual Dirty Santa party on December 10, 2020. You may register in advance for this meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
As we look forward to the New Year, let’s also look at continuing to stay connected. If you have not paid your ALA National dues, please be sure to do so soon. You can log in to my.alanet.org and navigate to the My Dues & Financials tab to find out how to pay. If you renew before January 1, you’ll get one free webinar that you don’t want to miss! In addition, be on the lookout for a renewal notice for your 2021 RDU ALA dues through StarChapter soon. Social media is another great way to stay connected to your colleagues. Please be sure to follow our chapter on Facebook and LinkedIn and ALA National!
Cheers to 2020 and looking forward to an even better 2021!

October Virtual Trivia and Haven House Fundraiser
On October 8th, a huge number of Chapter members and Business Partners gathered for a raucous game of Virtual Trivia, enhanced by the delivery of our participants beverage of choice! Along with enjoying our time together and playing trivia, we joined forces to raise over $3,300 for Haven House Services. We did that by creating a friendly competition within our group. With a group of Type A personalities, you simply use the word competition and it is on! The Second Rounders versus The Wrenn Housers. These names came from two of the amazing programs offered by Haven House. It was never really a close battle though because the Second Rounders came out in battle attire and won the competition with a margin of $2015.00 to $1285.00 over the Wrenn Housers. That is not all the legal community contributed the Haven House Annual Campaign. The Law Firm Challenge which brought 8 local firms together to compete, contributed over $33,000 to the cause. This is a showing that our Chapter and entire legal community should be proud of! The big winner was Haven House, who in the end had an Annual Campaign tally of over $280,000!
Thanks to all for participating! This was an amazing turnout for a great cause!
