The Wrap: August 2020 Print

President's Report

Greetings Fellow RDU ALA Chapter Members,

It is hard to believe that just 5 short months ago, we were all gathered together for our Education Conference and today most of us are still working remotely due to the global pandemic that is COVID-19.  If you are like me, you are wondering what has happened to the year and quite frankly what else might happen in the last 4 months!  While we have all suffered in some way due to the change in our working environment, I believe this time has also provided us some silver linings.  While I truly wish we were all meeting monthly in person for education sessions and happy hours, I feel fortunate that our organization and chapter seemed to pivot effortlessly into remote educational opportunities for all. It forced us to put technology at the forefront of our day-to-day work and allowed us to all stay connected under very trying circumstances. I don’t know about you, but I for one could not have survived the last few months without the support of our amazing chapter and business partners.  We’ve been able to commiserate about the challenges and celebrate the victories we all face and support each other in ways that I hope continue post-pandemic….whenever that may be.

Hopefully you all received the email from ALA National about volunteering at the national level.  If you or a fellow chapter member is interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities, please login to alanet.org to review eligibility requirements and traits of a successful candidate. The Nominating Committee is accepting applications through August 21, 2020 and the Board of Directors, Chapter Resource Team and Foundation of ALA are accepting applications through September 16, 2020.  There are many ways to serve our wonderful organization and share your expertise.

Many of you, including myself, are dealing with children who are about to begin school virtually.  I am hopeful we can all tackle that challenge with the same tenacity that we have managed to run our offices during this trying time.   Education is the cornerstone of what we do as a chapter and I am excited that we are still able to bring quality programming to our chapter members and business partners including next week’s virtual meeting presented by our very own, Claudine Woods.  You will not want to miss Claudine’s presentation and discussion on Race and Leading Through Traumatic and Triggering Events.  If you have not registered yet, please be sure to login to StarChapter in order to obtain the Zoom details.

I look forward to zooming with you all today and please stay healthy, safe and happy!
